We are deep in the heart of winter! That’s right, Columbus natives are waiting for winter to wave it’s white flag, only to be angry that they have to see one more white color associated with winter. While spring is a little ways around the corner — and let’s be honest, we Ohioans know not to trust spring until late April, she’s just too tricky — here one of many Columbus events to hang our hats on and enjoy the winter times.
One of those glorious events is the Winter Beerfest coming this Friday and Saturday (January 17th & 18th). 2 big nights, 300+ craft beers, and great times had by all. The 4th Annual Columbus Winter Beerfest will take place at the Columbus Convention Center, located at 400 N. High Street, across from the likes of Martini’s and Barley’s Brewing Company — both would be great places to eat before the event.
The 300+ beers on tap range in origin from right here in Columbus, to across the country in California. Some notables include Columbus Brewing Company, Bell’s Brewery (Michigan), Great Lakes Brewing Company (Cleveland), and Breckenridge Brewing Company(Colorado) to name just a few. For those Ohio University alumni, a few Jackie O’s beers will also be on display. Here is the complete list of beers on tap this Friday and Saturday.
As with the Summer Beerfest, the regular admission tickets are $40 online (today is the last day to purchase them), and $50 (cash only) the day of the event. The ticket includes 25 5oz. samples. VIP tickets are $50 online today, and $60 (again, cash only) the day of the event. The VIP package gets you in an hour earlier and offers 25 8oz samples. Check my math: for the $40/$50 ticket you get about 10.5 12oz (regular can) beers, and for the VIP ticket — $10 more, or the same price depending on when you buy –you get around 16.5 12oz beers, and an hour of extra time. There is also a “Connoisseur Package” that you can be purchased for Friday as well. Below is a schedule of the events.
6:30 p,: VIP doors open
7:30: Regular admission doors open
10:40: Last call
10:45: Last pour
11:00: Event ends
We recommend getting there early, as the Summer Beerfest had an incredibly long line. Have fun enjoying a great Columbus event, and be safe!
