Holy clogged arteries Batman! There’s a new restaurant in town and it’s super cheesy. No it doesn’t have a bunch of lame Dad jokes written on the walls, Melt Bar & Grilled specializes in gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches and boy, do they look delicious. Melt Bar & Grilled has expanded from their first location in Cleveland to five new locations including one located in the Short North. Melt, as it is affectionately referred to, boasts tons of awards including Best Restaurant by Cleveland Scene Magazine, Best Cheap Date Spot by Cleveland Magazine, and One of the Best Sandwiches in America by Esquire.
Melt’s founder, Matt Fish is the man behind this magical place of cheese and beer. Matt says that the idea for Melt came from his fandom of the grilled cheese sandwich. After attending culinary school Matt perfected the Melt menu and then in opening the restaurant, he was able to cultivate the feel of an intimate and inviting setting. Matt’s mantra: Don’t forget to have fun! And who can argue with that?
This melted cheese haven opened their first location in 2006 with one goal in mind: “To provide gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches and as many beers as possible in a cool and comfortable environment. No bar food. No boring choices on tap. And something for everyone: it’s Cleveland-friendly, slightly kitschy, and memorable. It’s relaxing, energetic, and fun. ” – Melt Bar and Grilled
Melt is also a lively restaurant with an ever-changing menu, as well as a food challenge. The Melt Challenge – aptly named – is Melt’s “monster grilled cheese featuring 13 different cheeses, 3 slices of grilled bread and a pile of hand-cut fries & slaw.” – Melt Bar and Grilled
It’s over 5 pounds of food with a side of heart attack. If you can finish this delicious death sentence without any bathroom trips you will be awarded a Melt t-shirt or Melt pint glass, a $10 gift card, and a picture on the online Melt Challenge Hall of Fame.
Melt is sure to be a hit in Columbus, and I can’t wait to get my paws on some delicious grilled cheese.
