This week marks the start of The Presidents Cup played Muirfield Village. The event will pit some of the United States’ best golfers against others from around the world.
What is The Presidents Cup?
The Presidents Cup occurs every 2 years (on non Ryder-Cup years). The event is a series of golf matches between The United States, and essentially everyone else except for European players. The first Presidents Cup was held in 1994 at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Virginia, where the U.S. team, captained by Hale Irwin, went on to defeat the International Team. Throughout the years The Presidents Cup has been played on courses ranging from San Francisco to George, South Africa.
Why it’s Awesome
Anytime there’s an event between the United States vs someone, I get a little jacked up. But when an event is literally described as the U.S. vs The World how can that not get your red, white and blue blood a little fired up? Even if “The World” excludes European players, this event is going to be exciting, with the U.S. team, captained by Fred “Silver Fox” Couples, being riddled with phenomenal players. Also, it’s just another win for Columbus. As previously mentioned, The Presidents Cup occurs once every two years and literally has taken place across the world. For the event to come to Columbus is just downright cool. Especially because it just adds to what has been just a fantastic year for Columbus in general ( USA vs Mexico soccer match, being named most intelligent city, a 12-0 football team, Blue Jackets are relevant for the first time in I don’t know how long, Aaron Craft) my goodness, if we opened an In-n-Out Burger, in the words of Jack Donaghy, Columbus would officially be “Reaganing.”
